Welcome to the “Trafford Young Composer and Poet”

This is a unique venture, which has been performed annually since 1992. It gives youngsters the chance to actually hear their compositions and poems performed LIVE, by adults, in front of a large audience. The compositions are professionally arranged, often for a full Symphony Orchestra, whilst the poems are read out by leading actors from the world of stage and drama.

First concert in the young composer competitionThere is no prize money – just a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear their own ‘masterpiece’ performed in public. A Concert is held each July to display the finalists’ work. From humble beginnings (in 1992 the audience was 82!) the event has ‘sold-out’ for the last ten years.

Competitors can live outside Trafford but there is little point in entering if they are not able to attend the Finals Concert in Altrincham (8 miles from Manchester, England) in early July each year.

The Concert is a pleasing mixture of poetry and music. Certificates are awarded to all Finalists and shields to the winners of each Section. The Mayor of Trafford has always attended and sometimes we invite a special guest to present the awards.

Interested?

Then have a look at the Competition Rules and send in as many entries as you like. The closing date is May 1st. each year.

Just think…......you could be the next Beethoven or Shakespeare!
